All NYC Public School (NYCPS) teacher-coaches must complete the AED/CPR (opens in new window) in-person training from the vendor Emergency Skills every two years.
What is covered in the training:
The AED/CPR: American Heart Association Heartsaver (opens in new window) course is a free, 6-hour, CDC-approved in-person training. The training instructs school staff when to phone 911, how to perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on adults, children or infants. Skills to help relieve choking are also taught, practiced and assessed.
Follow these instructions to complete the training:
- Visit the AED/CPR: American Heartsaver (opens in new window) web page.
- Create a profile on ALIVEnet; which is the platform associated with Emergency Skills. Your login credentials are not connected to the NYC PS email and password.
- Login using your email and click on the red box, "GO."
- Use the "Dashboard" on the left side of the landing page and select "Individual Registration."
- Select from the drop down box on the "Class Registration" landing page the borough where you would like to take the class, then click "Continue."
- Choose the "Date & Time" and "Location" then click on the "Select" button.
- Attend and successfully complete the 6-hour course.
- Scan, save, and upload a copy of your temporary AED/CPR completion certificate signed by the instructor to the WellnessHub. For help completing the training and uploading your certificate, see Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) (opens in new window).
- Replace your temporary AED/CPR certificate within 7 to 14 days with the official certificate from Emergency Skills to your WellnessHub staff profile.
